Election Workers Needed in Thomaston

Citizens are needed to work at the polls on election day. The municipal clerk can explain more details about the work involved with election administration.  Below is some basic information for all Maine residents who are interested in serving as election workers. Eligibility: 

State law sets the requirements for election workers: 

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must be a registered Maine voter
  • Must be a resident of the municipality or county where they will be serving
  • 16 and 17 year-olds who are conditionally registered to vote are allowed to serve
  • Must not be a candidate or a member of a candidate’s immediate family

Semi-Open Primaries:

Effective January 1, 2024, Maine transitioned from a closed-primary system to a semi-open primary. Unenrolled voters are now able to participate in primary elections. Specific questions or information searches on Maine Primaries should be directed to the Maine Secretary of State office. 

 

Election Dates 2025: 

February 4, 2025 - Secret Ballot Election

February 5, 2025 - Special Town Meeting

June 10, 2025 - Municipal & School Budget Validation Election 

June 11, 2025 - Annual Town Meeting

How do I vote by Absentee Ballot?

You can request an Absentee Ballot by calling the Town Office at (207) 354-6107, online at Online Ballot Request Service, or by coming into the Town Office to fill out an application for yourself and/or an immediate family member.  Please note that email and voice mail requests for Absentee Ballots are not allowed under Maine law. You must speak directly with a member of office staff to request a ballot over the phone.  The deadline to request an absentee ballot or vote in the presence of the clerk is 5 p.m. on the Thursday prior to the election.  After that date, only voters with one of the following Special Circumstances may obtain an absentee ballot:

  • You will be out of town UNEXPECTEDLY during the ENTIRE TIME that the polls are open on voting day (8:00 AM TO 8:00 PM).
  • You are unable to vote at the polls because of a physical disability. 
  • You are unable to leave home or a treatment facility due to illness or infirmity. 
  • You are a resident of an island ward or precinct and are unable to travel to the polls. 

All absentee ballots must be returned to the Clerk's Office by close of polls at 8PM on Election Day.  Ballots may be returned by mail, in person, or 24/7 via the ballot drop box located in front of the Thomaston Municipal Building.
