 Tax Maps

These are the maps that show our current understanding of how each parcel in Thomaston fits in with all of the other parcels in Thomaston. There is an ongoing project to compare each parcel's shape with the appropriate deed(s) to verify that we have the best information available. We use Geographic Information System (GIS) software to prepare these maps in house and base our land assessments on the volume computed by the system, which does not always match exactly what the deed says. For more information on our mapping project, please contact the Assessors' Agent. The Thomaston Zoning Map is the last page in this document.

 Tax Commitment Books

This document begins with the State of Maine Annual Municipal Valuation Return which details the process by which we compute the tax rate, followed by individual listings of taxes assessed plus listings of exemptions granted and other items.  Prior years Commitment Books are kept in the Assessors' Agent office and can be viewed by appointment.

 Thomaston Assessment Manual

This document is the basic assessment manual we use to compute the value of residential buildings and land in Thomaston. It has an explanatory section in the front that explains the methodology used in computing values and it is based on the Official State of Maine Assessment Manual. Further information about how it is used may be had by contacting the Assessors' Agent. Commercial, Industrial and other types of properties are assessed either by the Marshall & Swift Valuation Manual or in the case of very large operations such as Dragon Products or Wal-Mart, we hire a professional Appraisal Service such as Property Valuation Advisors to prepare the valuation estimates for us.
